Platt Park

Platt Park, including “Old South Pearl Street”, is a thriving enclave steeped in neighborhood pride and tradition. Its heartbeat mirrors economic ebbs and flows dating back to the Great Depression. Situated four miles south of downtown, South Pearl Street was split in half with the arrival of Interstate I-25 in the late 50′s, which destroyed much of the area’s commerce.

The neighborhood was revitalized in the 70′s with the immigration of painters, potters, sculptors and other artisans searching for inexpensive storefronts. This energetic and lively spirit continues to define the personality of Platt Park, as the neighborhood offers a cornucopia of art galleries and landmark restaurants like Sushi Den and Pearl Street Grill. Its residents have little need for a car given Platt Park’s walker-friendly layout and close proximity to light rail.
